ABC, Follow Me!

: Phonics Rhymes and Crafts Grades K-1
by Linda Armstrong
From the
reviews
Help children with the sounds of letters (phonemic awareness) with
this useful book. It also helps them recognize and differentiate letter
symbols.
The lessons are easy-to-implement and correlated to national
standards. Included in the book are original, instructional,
reproducible black line masters! Crafts are age-appropriate and
inexpensive, created with materials most teachers have on hand. Craft
patterns are included, as well as photos of the finished product. The
crafts are included not just for their fun value, but also because they
help children get a kinetic feel for letter shapes--something that can
be very useful for dyslexic learners. For example, one craft suggests
that children cut out large letters and then place a sheet of paper over
the cut-out and make a rubbing.
Also included are playground activities using letter chants,
dramatic play suggestions, ideas for related creative art projects, and
bibliographies of additional useful resources.
The lessons offered are great ways to engage children in learning.
This new resource offers hands-on help with teaching phonics and
phonemic awareness. These easy-to-follow lessons on letter and sound
recognition will help educators build the foundation for an effective
reading program in the classroom and library.
