This year, I read The Monster who Ate My Peas to my kindergarten classes served small cups of split pea soup, dried, salted peas, and pea pods also had a visual of a pea plant and discussed the parts of the plant.)  While some of the kids turned up their noses at some of the snacks, most of them enjoyed them and the book was the top vote receiver in our Young Hoosier Book Award voting!

There's also several Emily Dickinson cake recipes that would be fun to bring to class, if you're allowed to bake at home and bring stuff in.  They're available online.

Don't forget to inquire for each class regarding food allergies; you also might want to check for Jewish students who keep kosher in the home.

Read the chapter called Donuts from Homer Price by McCloskey and serve donut
holes. This is an old "classic" book and one that the kids might not know. I just did this with my fourth graders and they loved it.
