Mike McGowan, the technology director for Sunnybrook District 171, asks parents and educators to consider whether new technology is helping students to learn or whether it might actually be doing more harm than good. He offers insights for educators to determine the effects of technology on students and how to make educated choices to use technology in the classroom.

Journal of Online Learning and Teaching [pdf]
http://jolt.merlot.org/
More and more educators may wish to get involved with online teaching initiatives, but they may not be sure where to start. That's where the Journal of Online Learning and Teaching (JOLT) steps in to provide a bit of assistance. JOLT is published four times a year, and its objectives are to enable faculty to use technology effectively in teaching and learning and also to enable academic programs to design and deploy academic technology. The journal has been published since the summer of 2005, and first-time visitors should take a look at the current issue to get a sense of their work. Visitors will find pieces on course management systems, creativity in online courses, and how to monitor and examine online discussions. Those who are so inclined should feel welcome to submit their own work for potential inclusion in a forthcoming volume.

Integrating IT: Classifying Matter using Inspiration
Kidspiration/Inspiration software is a great tool to assist students in recording the classification of matter into natural and human-made. Here is
what you can do using a data projector and Kidspiration:
Collect images of symbols of different types of objects to place on your screen
Make 2 large boxes labelled natural and human-made on the screen.
Ask students to help click and drag the objects to the correct box.
Demonstrate how to create subgroups within each box.
Ask students to create their own chart showing their categories.
To see an example of this go to:

I Wish: Data Projectors
I have collected some resources this week about with information and tips for using data projectors in the classroom. The price of projectors is coming down all the time. It is about time your principal bought you one.
You deserve it. Besides the obvious educational advantages, data projectors are also great to borrow for the weekend for viewing sporting events on TV.

Want to wear the latest in computer fashion? Don't want to be left behind in the IT style stakes? Is this the teaching tool of the future? http://www.xybernaut.com/Solutions/product/mav_product.htm
The Xybernaut Mobile Assistant is a lightweight, wearable computer that fits into a pocket but is as powerful as a desktop computer. It can function as a personal organizer, a touch-activated voice synthesizer, and content
delivery tool.

I saw an ICTs lesson plan recently for younger kids that could beadapted -
The basic intentions were to learn to use the thesaurus in MS Word and to experiment with Word Art. This was done in an activity replacing the "nice" in a small "Have a nice day" sign/poster/greeting card with several other words done is various Word Art styles.
Other  cards saying Congratulations on a "good" result, Thanks for a nice meal,  etc could be used
PS For alternatives to "said" I always liked the fun of "Tom Swifties" where the adverb and sometimes the verb  was a pun as in "You are as beautiful as the Venus de Milo," Tom whispered disarmingly "I'm halfway up a mountain," Edmund alleged "I'm tired of smiling," moaned Lisa "We're returning the ship to harbour", the captain reported
